You know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You know you should make the time to sit down and eat it to provide your body with nutrition and energy that will jump start your day. But even though you know it, there are times when life doesn’t cooperate and your alarm doesn’t ring, you remember at the last moment that you’re supposed to get to the office earlier or you hit snooze button one time too many because of last night’s fun. Either way, you find yourself in a hurry and certainly with no time to sit down and have a leisurely breakfast. You may be tempted to skip it and grab something on your way, but that will likely turn out to be a sugary donut or a greasy fast food breakfast sandwich. Rather than being bad for yourself, take two minutes to make a quick breakfast you can have on the go. It will be much healthier than anything you can get in a reasonable amount of time before getting to the office, and those couple of minutes won’t hurt you.

If you’re a savory breakfast person, some kind of eggs are likely to be on your menu on a regular basis. Just because you don’t have the time to make eggs Benedict or to fry up a batch of bacon doesn’t mean you can’t have your savory breakfast on the go. Simply scramble the eggs and make some turkey bacon in the microwave. Warm up pita bread, stuff it with your eggs and crumbled bacon, top off with a spoonful of salsa and you’re ready to go. You can also use a tortilla if you don’t have pita bread handy, just as long as you can grab your breakfast in one hand and place it in your cup holder or lap when you’re behind wheel.

Another easy and quick savory breakfast is a hot, grilled sandwich. a couple of slices of ham and cheese on low carb bread, with a slice of tomato and some lettuce greens may seem more like a lunch, but it will work as the day’s starter meal as well. You can add fried egg to your sandwich, making sure the yolk is in no way runny, as you don’t want it to end up on your clothes, you can also toss some strawberries, blueberries and a banana for a fruit salad on the side. It will fill you up and provide enough energy to get you through to lunch.

And if the idea of fruit sounds good to you because you’re more of a sweet breakfast fan, go that route. Maybe there is no time to enjoy a bowl of your favorite cereal or muesli with fresh fruit, but there is certainly time to make a delicious smoothie you can grab in a convenient cup. For faster prep use frozen fruit that is already washed and ready to eat, add some natural yogurt or milk, drizzle in a bit of honey and blend until smooth. It will only take a moment yet you’ll end up with a nutritious, vitamin packed breakfast you will have no problem finishing off on the go.

Breakfast is important to both give you energy and to jump start your metabolism, that’s why it’s the most important meal of the day. Whether you have plenty of time or you’re in a hurry, skipping your breakfast is not an option. So make sure you never do that not only by coming up with some emergency quick recipes, but also by preparing and freezing some foods you can quickly put in the microwave when you’re getting dressed. Pancakes, waffles or cut up fruit will come in especially handy, just like some pita bread will waiting in your fridge.
