Those acne lesions are injuries caused to the cells lining the sebum canals when there is a sudden outflow of sebum to the outer layer of the skin caused by hormonal disequilibria or because of increased strain on those cells arising from clogging of such outflow by clogged or blocked pores.
Actually acne scarring is the outcome when our immune system has to depend just on its own resources to fix acne punctures, for then it acts in accordance with the evolutionary lesson it learned during our evolutionary drift:
All wounds or wounds, scrapes or blisters represent a dangerous threat to our survival, not only due to blood loss, but also due to tissue damage or infection from the invasion of micro-organisms and/or foreign bodies like mud, chips and bacteria.
The healing mechanism which has developed to react to such threats has two basic characteristics:
First, there is a fast and robust agitative response, which sets on the alarms and results in a cascade of events that start with an action call to its fire fighters to the injured site.
2nd, there's a fibrotic"walling-off" response to isolate foreign bodies, and forestall germs from ceasing the chance to penetrate at the site of a lesion.
Problem is those firemen arrive inflamed with chemical weapons and can care less if they also liquefy or destroy adjacent skin and lead to abscess formation. After all they have learned, during our evolutionary drift, that intruders at a site of incision may become a matter of life or death.
Beauty Is Not a Priority For Our Immune Mechanism
To revive the integrity of the skin as fast as possible shutting of skin chancres and fixing of missing skin tissues occur quickly by an evolutionary mechanism that leads to granulation and fibrosis, and in other more common words: acne scars.
In contrast, when granulation tissues form in wound healing, collagen bundles are laid down in parallel between the margins of the skin lesions. The aberrant architecture of the collagen deposition creates tissues of weaker tensile strength and produces the characteristic scars.
Studies of the wound process of healing in humans and in animals show, for sure, that the first 48 hours after a skin lesion are key in figuring out the scarring result. The best outcome is when interventions are made within this window. A probable reason is that the low number of signaling molecules in the opening cytokine cascade caused by the skin therapeutic process can have a deep effect on the levels/proportions of inflammatory cells and growth factors recruited to the wound site.
In addition, the inducted cells influence the receptor profiles on the target cells, further impacting on the healing response and subsequent scar deposition.
